Blackjack Timeline

•  From 1850 to 1910, gambling was legal in the West.

•  In 1910 gambling and operating a gambling casino was made illegal in Nevada when the government realized that the gambling industry was leading to corruption and encouraged organized crime. Banning casinos simply forced the gaming to go underground thus actually making gambling truly criminalized.

•  In 1919 special green-felted Blackjack tables were designed.

•  In 1931 Nevada re-legalized casino gambling and created laws to protect the players. They also created overseeing bodies in the government, thus Las Vegas was born. In this year Blackjack became the third most popular casino game in Nevada .

•  In 1948 Blackjack was second only to Craps.

•  In 1958 was well on its way to being number one.

•  In 1978 casino gambling was legalized in Atlantic City , New Jersey .

•  In 1989 only two states legalized casino gambling. Since then twenty other states have opened small-time casinos. Several Native American Indian reservations have opened and built casinos as well. Other countries, besides the United States , opened casinos --- France , England , Monaco , and a few Caribbean Islands .
