Money Management

In Blackjack, and in any other game, it is important to know the basic strategy. The basic strategy is to play every hand the best way based on the basic playing rules of Blackjack. Pay attention to what cards have been dealt to aid you in deciding whether to stand, hit, or call.

In games with more than one deck, there are more opportunities to get a Blackjack, yes, but with more cards to play with, you also get more of the lower value cards. This allows a player more opportunities to reach twenty one. A hand may contain more than one of a particular card.

Implement a money management (betting) system. Simply put, a player allocates a “playing budget” and will only play within that budget. He also decides before he starts playing what he considers an acceptable loss. Once he hits that amount, the player stops playing.

The following are the different types of money management (betting) systems, all of which could be implemented in any form of gambling:

•  1-3-2-6 system – this system presumes that you win four times in a row and multiply your bet accordingly.

•  D'Alembert system – this is a negative progressive betting system. A player increases his bet with each loss. This is often used by players to force a win after a losing streak.

•  Labouchere system – this is a negative progressive betting system. It is often referred to as a cancellation system. A player writes down a series of numbers, in no particular order. Each number represents the number of chips or the amount to bet. You combine the outer numbers and cancel them and that is your amount to bet. On the next bet, choose the next numbers and so on.

•  Martingale system – this is a very old system. When a player wins a bet, he bet the same amount on the same round. When a player loses, he doubles his last bet.

•  Parlay system – a positive progressive betting system. In the Parlay system you place a bet and when you win you reinvest the full amount (base bet plus winnings) into the next bet. A common term used is to “let it ride”. This betting system takes advantage of a winning streak.

•  Paroli system – this is a progressive betting system. You start with one bet and increase your bet with every win. The Paroli system does not require a large bankroll. Your losses are less as your profits run.
