The years from 1980 to 1990 saw the rise to fame of poker. The World Series of Poker continued to attract players from all over the world to compete for money and the title, the world's top poker players. Numerous tournaments came into being promoting spectator awareness of the game. The turn of the millennium saw the advent of televised international poker tournaments via satellite transmission from practically any corner of the world. In today's hi-tech world, poker hasn't escaped the pull of the internet. The internet now offers a gamut of online poker sites providing a wide array of poker games. There are even chat rooms dedicated to the game and poker information. It seems more and more people are playing poker either at home, in casinos or online. Whether it is played for fun or for the money and fame at stake, poker holds an irresistible attraction. Poker has rightfully claimed the throne as the “King of the Games”. |
